The Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry distributed free local and national seeds to farmers in Arnavutköy in the event hosted by Arnavutköy Municipality.
Arnavutköy Mayor Haşim Baltacı, Istanbul Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Ahmet Yavuz Karaca, neighborhood mukhtars, farmers and citizens attended the ceremony held in Dursunköy Neighborhood.
"We will distribute14.5 tons of free local and national seeds to 83 people"
Underlining that they were to distribute local and national seeds through a project carried out by the Directorate General of Plant Production, Provincial Director Ahmet Yavuz Karaca said: "With the project developed by the General Directorate of Crop Production, we are now focusing on products such as Hungarian vetch seeds, oats and alfalfa silage corn for use in idle agricultural lands or fallow lands. And we have done this with a contribution of 533,000 TL. 75% of this grant is covered by the Ministry's budget, and 25% is covered by citizen contributions. Last year, 400,000 TL was covered by our Ministry, and 133,000 TL by our farmers. However, thanks to the sponsor we found, we did not reflect this amount to farmers. "This year, we will distribute14.5 tons of free local and national seeds to 83 people."
"We Will Cover 25% of the Support to Farmers"
Emphasizing the wealth of Arnavutköy District, Mayor of Arnavutköy Haşim Baltacı said: "Our region contains many riches and we have an industrial zone. We have touristic areas. Also, we have a region that is engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry. It is the desire of all of us that all this diversity becomes a source of wealth and income in Arnavutköy. We put great efforts to support the farmers in our region. I understand from the director's statement that they covered for 75% of the benefits made in previous years, while 25% were not reflected to farmers thanks to the support of sponsors. They said that they could not find a sponsor this year and that 25% will be covered by citizens. 'Mr. Director, we will sponsor the 25% this year.' We can solve this by means of inter-agency protocols. From this time today, this support will be in the form of a 100% grant."
