Istanbul Arnavutköy Municipality

In accordance with the "Law No. 5747 on the Establishment of Districts within the Boundaries of the Metropolitan Municipality and Amendments to Certain Laws" issued in 2009, the municipalities of Boğazköy, Bolluca, Durusu, Haraççı, Hadımköy and Taşoluk were annexed to Arnavutköy Municipality. Thus, with the local elections held in March 2009, the Arnavutköy District Municipality was formed by merging these 7 towns. Bahşayış Neighborhood connected to Çatalca, 8 forest villages within the boundaries of Çatalca and Gaziosmanpaşa districts, and the part of Şamlar Village connected to Küçükçekmece District to the north of Sazlıdere Dam Lake were annexed to Arnavutköy.

The newly established Arnavutköy District became one of the 39 districts of Istanbul, while the entire territory of the district is now recognized as the service area of the Arnavutköy District Municipality. While Arnavutköy had been part of Gaziosmanpaşa for about 45 years, it thus became a separate district.

With a total area of 506.52 km², the district is the fourth largest district of Istanbul. After the law no. 5747 entered into force, the legal entity status of all villages, except for forest villages, in Arnavutköy district were abolished and turned into neighborhoods.

The villages that retain the status of forest villages are: Baklalı, Balabanburun, Boyalık, Hacımaşlı, Karaburun, Tayakadın, Yassıören, Yeniköy. The neighborhoods of Nakkaş (46,78 km²) and Bahşayış (9,46 km²) annexed to Arnavutköy district by the law no. 5747 were later annexed to Çatalca district in 2014 by the "Law No. 6360 on the Establishment of a Metropolitan Municipality and 26 Districts in Thirteen Provinces and the Amendment of Certain Laws and Statutory Decrees". Thus, the area of the district decreased by 56.24 km² and became 450.28 km². Despite this, Arnavutköy has maintained its position as the fourth largest district of Istanbul. The Municipal Administrative Center of Arnavutköy Municipality is located at the address of Taşoluk Neighborhood, Kazım Karabekir Street, No: 88, and other service buildings were closed and merged into this single building in 2017.
